To schedule an appointment with your doctor’s order, please call Kish Hospital’s Outpatient Scheduling Department at 815.748.2975.

Your doctor’s office should fax your order to 815.748.8935 prior to your calling to schedule. For your test to be performed, it is necessary for you to schedule an appointment.

Bone Density scanning is an enhanced form of X-ray technology that measures bones and bone loss. Safe and accurate, the patient is able to lie comfortably on a padded table while the DEXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) unit moves and scans the body, most commonly around the hip and spine, without requiring any injections or other invasive procedures. The DEXA scanning provides a sensible way for physicians to detect early bone loss, those who are at increased risk, and monitor the effectiveness of treatment.

Axial Bone Density Testing scans the central axis bones of the body including the skull, vertebral column, ribs, and sternum.

Peripheral Extremity Assessment looks at the bone mineral density of peripheral joints and limbs, such as the elbows, wrists, knees and ankles.

Vertebral Fracture Assessment reviews bone and bone loss of the vertebra in the back and spine for fractures that can lead to an increased risk of future spine or hip fractures.
